So here’s the thing about thigh gaps… NOT A BEFORE AND AFTER
I took these about 10 seconds apart. The first one I’m standing “normally” feet together body straight. In the second one I’m purposefully pushing my hips back and out and I THINK it’s where I have hypermobility (unless the rest of you can also do this) my legs have moved so it looks like I suddenly have a huge thigh gap. (You can see my knees are facing inwards rather than straight… hypermobility ftw!)Like I always say, it’s more about body composition than losing weight. Not everyone can have a thigh gap. Get over it girls!
Also I don’t know about you but I think I look much healthier and more attractive in the first picture where my legs don’t look.. dare I say it.. approaching anorexic and planted right on the edge of my massive hips…
I’m hyper-flexible and I can give myself a thigh gap too, even though I have really chubby thighs. I can even stretch my leg over my head like the skinny girls doing yoga stretches can. It’s absolutely about body composition and fortunately everyone is different!
Exactly! See a few of us can do this. I have several hypermobile joints, especially my elbows which make it difficult to do press ups and bench dips as they lock out and used to cause some trouble when swimming, and my shoulders are really loose in their sockets. Plus I’m sure my back must be based on some of the things I can do that no one else can! Being flexible is mostly a good thing :D

Vanity Pounds: The last 5-20lbs you want to lose, NOT because your body’s unhealthy, but because you want to look a certain way.
Health & Vanity are two different things. I’m not judging you for your vanity pounds, I don’t like mine either. But they are NOT to be confused with healthy weight loss.
The problem with vanity pounds: everyone’s body is healthy at a certain point (mine is healthy within 10-15lbs+ of where I am, and within 5lbs-). The body LIKES being there. It’s not stressed about where it’s energy is coming from, it’s getting exercise, nutrients, sleep, love and it’s happy, happy, happy.
BUT… if it feels threatened with unhealthy behaviors (eating too little, ahem, -1000 calorie eaters or exercising too much (making too big of a deficit), it will enter starvation mode and start to release hormones, cortisol and other bo-chemistry weapons to preserve the energy and SAVE itself from YOU.
It is possible to lose those vanity pounds... but you need to do it healthily. Your body needs to feel nice & taken care of so that it doesn’t MIND losing an extra 5 or 10. If it’s not FREAKED OUT that you’re trying to starve it, it doesn’t release those hormones or signal your metabolism to slow down. It knows it’s okay. Those last 5-10lbs will take longer to lose, so relax & give yourself time to get there, okay? You already know how the story goes the other way, don’t you? Gain, lose, gain, lose, gain, lose….
This is how body love works for weight loss: You love your body. It loves you back. You HATE your body? Well, it will fight you with everything it’s got. And guess what? In the end, your body will WIN. It’s one tough mother f*cker.
So, those of you who are having trouble with those last 5-10lbs: relax. Slow down. Eat well & amp up your exercise INTENSITY, but don’t exercise MORE. Lowering your calories too drastically, or exercising too much (more than 5-6 days/week for an hour): this will break down your body, not give you enough recovery time, release hormones and NOT get you where you wanna go. Add strength training for tone & muscle, don’t overdo your cardio and make sure your body KNOWS it doesn’t need to fight back.
Cool?

Thigh gap?
Why oh why do I keep seeing young ladies bemoaning their lack of a thigh gap? Who invented that as some goal to achieve?
Ladies, guys don’t care about a “thigh gap”. I have been around a long time and I had never even heard of it before Tumblr. So, I’m not sure what the point is with this unhealthy obsession with a pointless goal. Please free yourself of this thigh gap madness!
While I think it’s good to point out that many men don’t care about “thigh gaps” (although I have seen a few who do), I think it’s also important to note that even if most men did care about thigh gaps it still wouldn’t necessarily be a healthy or important thing for women to pursue.
But to be honest, I don’t think the phenomenon of The Coveted Thigh Gap is as simple as a girls trying to attract males. Girls desiring tits and ass, maybe. To me, the Thigh Gap has always seemed much more like something girls misguidedly want because they feel like it’s needed in order to impress other girls. It’s viewed as this badge of honor, a marker of success of some sort. Proof to other women that they’ve got it all figured out or some shit. When in reality, only a certain portion of women can even achieve it, and even few of those can do so healthily.Exercising to achieve a Thigh Gap is really just an exercise in futility.
i’m not gonna lie, i think thigh gaps are kinda gross LOL. whenever i see a girl with one my mind screams “HER VAGINA IS UNPROTECTED!”
i mean i don’t see any point in them you’re just exposing your vag.

The number on the scale is an arbitrary measurement that has nothing to do with self worth. It also is a flawed measure of “health”. Gage your progress by how your body actually feels.

Is it better to lift heavy weights with less reps
Or
Lighter weights with more reps?
Heavy weights with less reps, definitely. You should be able to notice the difference just by how much ‘burn’ you feel. (Though, be careful not to strain your muscles!!)
